3 Locations – but one is my favorite!
I have a standing desk in three locations, so I can create stories anywhere! But one of these locations is my favorite place to create stories.
My First Creativity Space
Two desks convert from sitting to standing in my office at home. But, I mainly work from there, with chickens and other wildlife wandering outside my window. My older grandchildren help me with video voiceovers and some technical work. They might be using one of the desks, while I work from the other one. Laughter fills the room when we are creating videos together!
Creating on the Go
I also have a small, butcherblock countertop in our camper that converts to a standing desk or countertop table that I can use outside when we travel. But MY FAVORITE PLACE TO CREATE stories is at our cabin in northern Michigan, where I also have a butcherblock standing desk. A great view of our beach on the Straits of Mackinac (where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet) and Mackinac Island can’t be beat!
I Love to Stand
I love to stand while CREATING, as I often walk around with my thoughts and then come back and write them down. A few back problems from many years ago caused me to use a standing desk to help alleviate the issue. My desks are all portable, and I have the convenience of working where I want whenever I want.
Is it a Grandma Room or an Office?
Sometimes my office at home converts back to a ‘grandma room.’ I pull the desks out of there all together to let the little ones play with the toddler toys from my closet. They have fun making a big mess, and my papers, folders, and books are not in their way. Plus, we can easily get to any one of my collection of children’s picture books on the front-facing bookshelves along the back wall. Grandma time always trumps work-time!

Fun Fact About Me – I love to CREATE things from found objects on the beach!
In the spring, lots of unusual things wash up on our beach along Lake Huron, whether it ‘s a landscaping tie, driftwood, or a large metal cable from a passing ship. But unfortunately, we’ve also found shoes, beach toys, metal, glass, plastic bottles, balloons, and other garbage on the beach too.
Raking the Beach is Not Work
My husband and I spend a bit of time cleaning up our beach area every time we visit the cottage near Mackinaw City, Michigan. I do like to rake the beach, because it doesn’t seem much like work. It’s very calming to rake while listening to the swish-swoosh of the waves going in-and-out along our sandy beach. But finding trash is not fun!
Recycle, Reuse, Rework It
However, if we find something, we try to recycle, reuse, or rework it, someway. If not, it gets trashed. I’ve painted a few signs from found objects, and we’ve used some metal railroad spikes in some of our plant containers. We’ve found a thick nautical rope that was used in our son’s yard to make a swing for the kids. Rocks that are cool sometimes find their way to our rock wall along the beach too, and a sea gull feather may end up being a tall flag for a sandcastle.
What are you CREATING from beach finds?
