Nature is a Positive Thing for Kids

On My Desk – I love Nature-Themed Books and Videos for Kids

Reading stories related to nature is a positive thing for kids, because motivating them to explore outside is a win-win for all! Experts agree that nature is stimulating for kids and promotes better concentration, communication, and wellbeing. Getting kids outside to explore as much as possible is an idea that parents, teachers, and caretakers can get behind!

Appreciating Our Earth

You’ve probably noticed that I enjoy writing about things like gardening or outside exploration. When our grandchildren come over, we spend a lot of time outside. Check out one of the fun things that we do with our grandkids in our rural yard.

Also, see the I Spy Earth Day Ideas video below that reenforces the notion that nature is a positive thing for kids. While exploring their outdoors, they’re sure to get an idea or two about conservation, recycling, reusing, etc.

Being Mindful in Nature

I’m currently working on a nature-themed children’s book that will take kids on a mindful journey protecting our fabulous earth along the way. To read more about it, see my Upcoming Books section on my website here. I hope to have it published soon.

We Love Trees!

Fun Fact About Me – We Plant Trees on Our Property

We are lucky to live out in the country. One of the things we’ve done over the years is plant trees on our back property. For many years, we planted rows and rows of spruce and scotch pine trees. These are both evergreen trees, with scotch pines being quicker to grow, but with full lush greenery on the spruce trees. Providing shade from the hot sun or being used for Christmas trees are ways we have enjoyed them over the years. When they are cut down for use, they are then recycled in the yard for small animals to explore.

Maple Trees for Shade and Sap

The last few years, we planted sugar maple trees, as we collect maple sap in the springtime to make maple syrup from other larger trees in the yard. Repopulating the area with new trees for future generations to enjoy is one reason we planted maples.

Maple trees are not only lovely to look at year-round, they provide shade and sap for us to use. Since they are in the back of the property, there is no fall leaf cleanup. The leaves provide a natural compost for the soil when autumn arrives, breaking down in about a year.

We love our trees!
